Food may form the most significant element of our existence, but we’re not closing doors to fashion. The good thing is we don’t have to play dress-up, and the better thing is, Ayse and Ece Ege, the creators of luxury fashion brand Dice Kayek, will be giving the Crossing Boundaries lectures at the Fire Station: Artist in Residence and Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar).
Dice Kayek was founded by the sister duo Ayse and Ece Ege in 1992. Since then, the label has become synonymous with creating designs that have strong architectural influence, bold lines and clothes where both tradition and modernisation meet. It also won the Jameel Prize 3, which is an international award for contemporary art and design inspired by Islamic tradition.
The lectures will be titled Istanbul Contrast: Defining a City Through Fashion and will be held on two days – Monday April 2 at 7pm at the Fire Station Cinema and Tuesday April 3 at 1pm at VCUarts Qatar's Atrium.
A modern version of couture, creativity, detail and craftsmanship underpins this Turkish brand, based in Paris. It has also become a part of the Federation Francaise de la Couture in 1994.
The sisters felt the urge to delve deeper into their roots in Istanbul, a city that blends traditions with modernity, and worked on how to translate this architectural, cultural and religious diversity into couture.
You’ll find us there, just in case we decide to change career paths in the future.
