Doha Festival City is due to open next month and is due to be packed with shops and restaurants. But later will come four huge new theme parks. Here we have the lowdown.
Aimed at all ages from kids and teens to adults, they offer an exciting mix of adrenaline rides, real snow, escape rooms and racing simulators to name just a few.
Angry Birds World (www.angrybirdsworld.qa) – based on the game that took the world by storm and the blockbuster movie that followed – will be the first international flagship park, with 35 rides and attractions that include a huge slingshot ride, drop towers, a reverse bungee a trampoline park and more.
No less exciting, Snow Dunes will be the country’s first indoor snow park, using the latest in snow production technology (yes, that’s a thing) to create a frosty -4°C environment that’s virtually identical to natural snow. There will be slides, slopes and a snowy play area – where we’re sure the adults will have just as much fun as the kids.
Specifically for kids aged 7-14, Juniverse is a unique home-grown concept with a futuristic (and educational) twist. The whole thing is set on a space station 400 km above Earth, in the distant future, and kids will need to figure out how to keep society safe and sustainable. The ‘missions’, which are available in English and Arabic, involve anything from growing and harvesting their own food to conducting medical surgeries and monitoring the space station. There will also be an exciting 4D ride.
Meanwhile, in Virtuocity (www.virtuocity.qa), teen tech-heads and adult gamers can get lost in a 3,500 square metre world of full motion racing simulators, escape rooms and a dedicated eSports arena. It’s all due to open in March, so watch this space for more on this exciting entertainment destination.
