Asafa Powell
DOB: 23/11/82
Team: Jamaica
Once held the world record for the 100m, from June 2005 to May 2008, and consistently runs it under 10 seconds. He currently holds a world record in the 4 x 100m (37.10 seconds).

Sanya Richards
DOB: 26/2/85
Team: America
Richards has won two Olympic gold medals in the 4 x 400m (in 2004 and 2008). She also won an individual bronze at the 2008 Olympics for the 400m, and a gold at the 2009 Berlin World Championships.

Kenenisa Bekele
DOB: 13/6/82
Team: Ethiopia
A long-distance runner, Bekele holds the world record and Olympic record in both the 5,000 and 10,000 metre events. He has not been beaten over 10,000m since 2003.

Blanka Vlasic
DOB: 8/11/83
Team: Croatia
Vlasic specialises in the high jump, and is the current world champion, both indoors and outdoors. Her personal best, set in 2009, is 2.08m – the second-highest jump in the history of the event.

Yelena Isinbayeva
DOB: 3/6/82
Team: Russia
This Russian pole-vaulter has a number of accolades to her name, and in 2005 became the first women to clear 5m. She holds the world record at 5.06m, and has won two Olympic gold medals.
