Re-connecting you

Shereen D’souza suddenly has a flashback and remembers her school days (she’s not proud of the number of times her Nokia phone was confiscated). She takes a look at what the Finnish brand is up to now... Discuss this article

Do you remember the time when you absolutely refused to switch over to any other brand from a Nokia? The same era when you dropped said Nokia countless times in unmentionable places and it still worked. Lots has changed since then and, sadly, we all moved to the bigger and better brands (or so we thought).

So recently, when we heard that the Nokia 8 took its first bite of the new Android OS Oreo (we miss Jellybean), we had to look into what’s on offer from this old-but-gold, cult-classic brand. We’re happy to state that we’ve checked off pretty much everyone’s New Year wish lists for really affordable prices. Whether it’s a flagship device, an affordable smartphone or a reimagined classic, Nokia has them all.

Nokia 3310
We’re really not sure how we truly feel about buying a new Nokia 3310 (a contradiction in terms) but for the sake of nostalgia (a game of snake, anyone?), 22 hours of talk time thanks to the battery life and an incredibly competitive price, we’re willing to test it out.

Nokia 3

Then, there’s the Nokia 3 – a beautifully crafted phone with all the android privileges. We love its optimum design and reasonably good performance. The Gorilla Glass display and 8 megapixel Autofocus makes it worth the price, too.

Nokia 5

We all have an inner photographer inside us (especially when there’s food on the table) and if you, like us, have been taking consistently disappointing phone-camera pictures, you’ll love the Nokia 5. Its automatic scene detection feature helps you get good shots wherever you are, while colours look natural thanks to the dual-tone flash. We can go on and on about this phone, but let’s just leave you with the price. Bargain!

Nokia 6

The Nokia 6 is possibly our favourite – excellent value for money with its 16 megapixel phase detection autofocus camera on the back and an 8 megapixel camera on the front. It’s perfect if your phone is your best friend and you really rely on it for everything, and even make it your restaurant dinner companion.

Nokia 8

This flagship phone is every disappointed Nokia-lover’s dream come true (seriously). A 13 megapixel super-slim camera, OZO spatial 360 audio and one-touch live-streaming is the most magical combination for content creators. Did we also mention you can use the front and rear camera at the same time?
