Indego by Vineet is the latest addition to a dizzying roster of Doha dining. Perched on level 42 of Abraj Tower, it offers Indian fusion cuisine in a breathtaking setting.

Set over three stunning levels, Indego has a wow factor that will impress even the most grizzled of Doha veterans. We do a wraparound tour – the 41st level features multi-coloured silk cushions that adorn velvet chairs. The 42nd floor is far more vibrant and cultural with an Alice in Wonderland meets Mumbai theme. Chequered floors are offset by psychedelic blue and white porcelain countertops. Embroidered peacocks adorn the seating areas. Add 360- degree views and it’s a feast for the senses.

The waiters are friendly, well-spoken and very knowledgeable about Michelin-star chef Vineet Bhatia’s menu. We start with the Raj puri, a beetroot version of the traditional puris, sprinkled with pomegranates and a beetroot hummus. The kunafeh prawns with chilli mayo are a novel twist on local cuisine and it strangely works. Crispy on the outside and meaty on the inside, presented in shot glasses with a sauce that’s absolutely delicious, although slightly difficult to reach. The chicken Chettinad is a rich and creamy curry with hints of chilli, coconut, coriander and cumin. The chicken is well-cooked and very tender while the curry sauce is generous and soaks up perfectly with a portion of dense, buttery varki paratha. It’s a bit too salty, though, but completely excusable given that the restaurant is only in its soft-opening phase and is very open to feedback. For the final main, we order a staple classic, the lamb apricot biryani. Plentiful chunks of lamb are encased in a bread cauldron. The lamb is spot on.

Every dish is presented in style and the meticulous attention to detail is evident. This is traditional Indian hospitality at its best.
