Doha’s newest downtown spot is a stimulating blend of great food, groovy tunes and good times. As we enter, we pass classic American posters, big screens and collectibles surrounding the red brick walls adding a dash of colour to the décor outside. The mini basketball hoop grabs our attention, too.

A friendly host arrives to our table and introduces himself as ‘the chief’. We definitely need the chief to talk us through the vast menu. Earth Child, Wizard and some other random but cool nicknamed servers dash past us and the entire place has a really lively vibe.

We start with the Buffalo hot wings, which are a little small in size but really pack a punch with a sharp and sour tang. The accompanying blue cheese dip perfectly cuts through the spiciness of the wings.

For mains we pick the snow crab. It comes with a special kit that includes a pair of gloves, a hammer (which we want to take home), a cloth, an apron and an array of other surgical-looking tools meant to tackle the crab. This experience is quite multi-sensory and we end up making a fantastic mess, much the admiration/delight/horror of fellow diners. A word of advice: do not try this at home, or on a first date. The crab itself is delicious with a sweet undertone and added richness when trickled with the butter. Sides include baked potato and corn on the cob. A half portion of barbecued ribs, served on a chopping board, comes in a generous portion with hand-cut skin fries and slaw. The meat flakes perfectly off the bone and has a delicious, smoky flavour.

We finish off with an apple pie served alongside a planet-sized scoop of vanilla ice cream. Its dense biscuit base is topped with mounds of buttery crumble and the apple has just the right hint of cinnamon. The food, the friendly staff and fun atmosphere all warrant a return visit sooner than we’d expect.
