A casual café with fresh food that needs some fine-tuning Discuss this article

Meesh is something that has, so far, been missing in Doha – a quiet, casual self-service kind of café where you can hole up with a book or a laptop and a coffee for a couple of hours. Interiors are rustic and bright, with patterned tiles, wooden bookshelves, burlap sacks of coffee beans lining the walls, colourful leather sofas (though we do think these should be the plush, soft kind that you can really sink into) and bench-style tables with power outlets.

Food includes wraps, baguettes, salads, soup and baked goods ranging from savoury quiches to red velvet cupcakes. There’s also a variety of fresh juices from local start-up Raw, including a deliciously refreshing green juice with kale, green apple, cucumber and lemon. Everything is tasty, and you can tell it’s been freshly prepared, but when it comes to execution nothing really shines. The vegetable soup is too fibrous (the celery hasn’t been properly strained out) and the salad has too much leaf and not enough of anything else. The red velvet cupcake tastes great, but it isn’t light or fluffy enough.

But the pleasant setting is novel for Doha, making Meesh a good place to drop in for a coffee, if nothing else.

The Bottom Line
A comfortable, nicely-designed space with freshly-prepared (but generally average) food.
