Sitting outdoors at the Four Seasons’ revamped all-day dining restaurant is an experience. When it’s cooler, you can relax in comfortably cushioned seats, overlooking the hotel’s manicured gardens and the Arabian Gulf.

It’s always been this good, even when the venue was known as Nusantao, but now it all seems reinvigorated, with a welcome injection of contemporary cool, enhancing the vibe. It’s a big difference.

Inside, the décor has also been spruced up, reflecting this move to urbanism, but also retaining a nod to the original inspiration – the four elements of earth, air, fire and water.

As for the food, it still maintains its Asian roots with the power-of-four concept (you’ll find Arabic, Asian, seafood and Indian flavours). This is where we see the biggest difference.

While the setting always enticed us to Nusantao previously, the food was not up to scratch for a Four Seasons venue. Elements, on the other hand, is.

The daily dining element is still there, with buffets for breakfast and lunch (epic selection, live cooking stations, fantastic food). We, however, review the à la carte dining (on the terrace, of course). And we’re blown away by our generously portioned half Peking duck appetiser, served with soft traditional pancakes and a moreish Hoisin sauce, that’s tender, crispy and richly flavoured.

The seafood miso ramen, though light and fresh, could use just a bit more seasoning, but that’s a small niggle. It’s the divine shrimp moilee, however, that really impresses, with coconut creaminess and a bevvy of flavours that will certainly give us cravings and have us coming back for more. Very soon.

The bottom line
Atmosphere, setting, food, service – it’s all fresh and fantastic in Elements.
