Market by Jean-Georges never wavers as a benchmark for a dining experience in Doha that’s sophisticated yet un-fussy, featuring flavours both familiar and fun.

Resting on laurels doesn’t seem to be a trait of the W Doha, which might explain the impetus for Market’s recent facelift. The reinvigorated restaurant retains all its trademark chic while introducing a modicum of charm.

The former white interiors have now taken on a richer tone, featuring antique bronze metalwork and panelling showcases of oak and ribbed timber. The warmer colours help reinforce the restaurant’s core character as a relaxed, comfortable destination – and though it may not be fine dining, it’s certainly fine food.

The menu is as inviting as ever. Top of the list is the distinctly nouveau sushi, with options such truffle hammour and yuzu infused shrimp tempura rolls. Crowd favourites continue to impress, such as the creamy tomato soup (served out of a teapot), slowly cooked salmon (with a dreamy black truffle emulsion) and the salted caramel ice cream sundae (we need say no more).

Whether you’re seeking an à-la-carte dinner, an express lunch, breakfast or brunch, a visit to Market fits right into the W service motto: whatever/whenever.

The bottom line The décor may be new and improved, but the award-winning standard of food remains unchanged.
