Cucina is spacious, rustic - and smells wonderful Reviews

Cucina is an excellent venue – spacious, rustic and it smells wonderful. But on the day we go during the lunch period, it’s unfortunately very quiet.

There are two lunch deals on offer here: the express lunch with three courses chosen from a menu which changes every three weeks, or the antipasto platter where you get a plate of starters and your choice of pizza or pasta to follow. I go for the express lunch deal where I choose a zucchini soup, salmon risotto and panna cotta. My friend goes for the antipasto platter with a vegetable pizza.

As soon as we order, we go to check out the antipasto section which is laid on a table at the front of the restaurant. There are plenty of options including salads, bruschetta, arancini balls, various bits and pieces like anchovies, olives and sundried tomatoes, and a range of dressings such as pesto, balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Between the two of us we pick a bunch of tasty looking dishes that we’ll nibble together. For the most part, we chose well. The mushroom bruschetta is great with crispy bread yet soft, chewy mushrooms and a delicious melted cheese covering. The salads are all nice and fresh, with simple flavours and plenty of garlic (so watch out if you’re headed back to the office!). And we really like the selection of fresh ingredients to make up our own salads – particularly the anchovies, which go down a treat.

Before we’re done, the zucchini soup comes out and it’s a little disappointing after such a promising start. It’s lacking a lot of flavour but we manage to spice it up a bit by scooping in a dollop of the pesto from our antipasto platter. Luckily, our risotto which follows is the opposite and full of flavour although, unfortunately, the piece of salmon which is laid atop is far too overcooked. We guzzle down the risotto, however, and leave the salmon, while we also tuck into the pizza which has arrived.

The pizza, for me, is lovely. It’s simple, fresh and light – which is what I look for in a lunch. My friend disagrees, however, finding the tomato sauce too acidic, the vegetables too soggy and the pizza base far too biscuit-like. Each to their own in this case I’d say.

Following these few low points, we wrap up the meal on a climax with the panna cotta which is undeniably fantastic in every way. Sweet, with lovely vanilla notes, and a good tang from the fresh berries – dessert perfection.

Overall, I find that the dishes are tasty, simple and light, particularly if you go for the antipasto platter deal, which I would do again. But I’d recommend ordering an extra dessert because that will surely be the highlight of your day.

After eating at Cucina's (i had not read this review), i was left less impressed that this review above mentions. I paid QAR65 for the Lasagna (not the review mentioned QAR45!), and at QAR45 per glass of wine, i felt the place is a little overpriced for what you get. I think you can find better in Doha.

We tried Cucina last week and we love the place.
They have a fabulous decor, wine barrels, a beautiful display cabinet with glasses and empty bottles of wine and the giant wheels of parmesan cheese.

We were received in the entrance for a friendly and very attentive receptionist from Italy who immediately show our table.

For our first experience we decide to try Margherita Pizza and 4 Cheese pitzza, and it was so delicious, perfect, just like you expect from a Italian Restaurant, we also love the wine options.

We will try Cucina again soon but for this time we wanna try some pasta.

Thanks for this very good restaurant, we felt like we were in a little peace of Italy in Doha.
