This restaurant is – dare we say it – one of Doha’s best kept secrets as it’s been around for years but is still relatively unheard of. In the clubhouse at Al Jazi Gardens, La Gourmandise offers a mainly German menu with international options in a comfortable setting with indoor and poolside dining. The walls are covered with art work created by Doha-based artists that sell for reasonable prices and even if you’re the only people there, it has a lovely vibe. This is partly due to a backdrop of unobtrusive pop music, but also thanks to the staff who are very helpful and friendly. The food is surprisingly brilliant for a restaurant so tucked away. Chef Hannes’ signature dish of scallops with Gulf prawns, grilled polenta and herb foam is a revelation, as is the very traditional wiener schnitzel with German potato salad. It’s a definite must try for all.
