Shake Shack is getting a lot of buzz and we have to wonder: what, exactly, is going into these burgers that people are lining up to taste?

Well, while we’re waiting in line ourselves, we see what’s not going in; Shake Shack is very proud of its hormone free, antibiotic free beef. It’s menu is like an ethical wonderland –organic ingredients, fair trade vanilla in its shakes – the works. Ah. So this is what happens when hippies still eat meat.

Keeping in line with that, we try the Shroom Burger, its version of a veggie burger. A Portobello mushroom stuffed with cheeses and fried, it’s actually fairly solid: it’s tasty, it’s filling, and it doesn’t feel like I just ate a piece of lettuce between two buns. It’s got a ‘meaty’ mouth feel, so much so that non-vegetarians would also probably like it. It’s a tiny bit bland, but topped with mustard and ketchup, it’s pretty tasty. But don’t be fooled by all the happy vegetarian vibes; they’re stuffing this with cheese. Health food this is not.

And since we couldn’t come to a burger joint and not have, you know, a burger (who are we kidding with this vegetable stuff?) we also give the Shack burger a whirl. My friend, who is usually a totally refined and delicate flower of a lady, opts for the double; the single, which we see parading past us from the counter, look small and she’s got a non-delicate-flower hunger going on. The double is about the size of the burger we’re used to in most restaurants. It’s tasty, with nice meat and a rather lip-smacking “special sauce”, if slightly greasy. On the side of this meat parade we try their cheese fries – and oh, we shouldn’t love them, but how we do. Crinkle cut and crispy, they come slathered in orange, glooby processed cheese. There is a special place in heaven for processed cheese and we’re hoping it involves a giant pool of the stuff we can dive in.

But a meal here wouldn’t be complete without its custard (it is called ‘Shake’ Shack, after all, not tasty-burger-and-oh-my-goodness-fries-with-cheese Shack). I try the chocolate shake, and then because it’s a weekend and technically this is work, we throw dietary caution to the wind and order two of the concretes, an ice-cream like concoction of frozen custard and yumminess. The burgers might be small, but the desserts are giant. The small is more than enough. We try the Shack Attack, basically all the ingredients tossed into chocolate ice cream and it’s good, but then we get a spoonful of its signature Doha inspired concrete. Vanilla ice cream, peanut butter syrup, cookie dough, brownie . . .that’s it, no more review, I’m off to order more.

I think there is a mistake in the "TOTAL" I've tried this place and I must say that this was the worst burger and fries I have ever tried in my life! Portions are tiny, it was the greasiest disgusting burger ever! Don't waste your money! Extremely overpriced, too! 140QR for 2 burgers, fires and shake?!
