One of the city’s first Armenian restaurants, Mamig’s menu includes Armenian dishes as well as some Lebanese staples. Mamig, which means ‘grandmother’, should give you a hint of what to expect. It’s gorgeously decorated in what we’re sure is traditional Armenian style. The wooden seating might not be the most comfy, but it’s certainly pretty. The dishes are good, with interesting flavours and textures and a nice change from the usual food on offer in Qatar. They do have a set menu of Armenian dishes, which is a handy option if you want to explore. But if you break down what you get, unless you share dishes, it’s cheaper to just order off the à la carte menu. That’s where they do stumble, with prices that are slightly high and service that needs to be improved. Consistency is also an issue: some people love it, some people give it a resounding ‘meh’. If those things were corrected, this could easily become a jewel in Katara’s crown.
