Sukh Sagar

When it comes to dining, vegetarians usually feel about as welcome as a dirty foot on someone’s sofa. But at the meat-free Sukh Sagar, vegetarians will be in their element. This popular chain has outlets across India, Dubai and now Doha, offering veggie lovers a bevy of options from their cosy location near Museum Street.
Glancing through the menu, vegetarianism is proudly ever present, beginning with the names of famous vegetarian celebrities, and continuing on with a seemingly endless list of veggie-packed dishes. It was a Friday night when Time Out Doha visited, and the place was packed with Indian families who were all taking advantage of the Friday buffet. It looked like a good deal, but we wanted to test the a la carte, so we started off by sharing a spring dosa, stuffed with garlic chutney, vegetables and fresh, crunchy coconut. The palak dhal with spinach was another good choice, thick with lentils and spinach, but runny enough to scoop up with piping hot roti bread.
Washing it down with sweet mango lassis, we moved onto the next dish: palak ke sath, but we weren’t as enamoured with this mushroom dish. However, the fresh slices of mango and delicious masala tea for dessert more than made up for it. To boot, the waiters were the kind of breed who bend over backwards at your every whim, and were friendly and attentive from start to finish. So attentive in fact, that they made sure we didn’t leave without grabbing a handful of sugar coated fennel seeds from a bowl by the door.
