The W hotel is a hub of funkiness, and Market by Jean-Georges’ fits in well. The decor consists of smooth browns and ambers, staff are courteous to the point of flirtation, and the menu is high end without being too fussy. The range is international – sushi, meats, soups and sandwiches – but inventive enough to include items like a wasabi tuna pizza. Even plain-sounding dishes are not drab: the rich and creamy tomato soup comes in a silver coffee pot, poured over a triangle of sourdough bread with cheddar shavings. Other dishes are equally competent, and not so exorbitantly priced to feel like poor value. A safe bet.
