Marsa Malaz Kempinski has been awfully quiet for a while now (except for the reopening of Illusion and Secret Garden) and we, honest patrons of all things quality, have been missing some action in the country. Enter Jason Atherton’s very first venture in Doha, Pearl Social, named after its location on the manmade island Pearl-Qatar.

The England-raised chef has worked with the likes of Gordon Ramsay and amassed an empire of 15 dining destinations worldwide, including the newest Pearl Social. The restaurant sees chef Karl Emsen head the kitchen following his involvement in Atherton’s Cebu venture. Emsen was previously sous chef at Michelin-starred City Social under Paul Walsh.

The menu features an exciting variety of contemporary and innovative fare that Atherton is renowned for with a specific focus on seafood. Some of the items on the menu include tuna with lemon, radish and mouli and a selection of roasted and grilled dishes such as roasted fillet sea bass with Amalfi lemon potato and a mussel and clam sauce and Florentine rib eye steak with Provençal herb pesto, lemon, wild mushroom and artichokes.

The décor is one for the books with its Mediterranean flair, featuring glorious floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing some truly spectacular views. The contemporary art deco look is accentuated with gold details and the bespoke leather seating, along with a series of 1960s French Riviera-inspired pictures adorning the central wall, makes the space very luxurious. The dining room has a marble top raw bar with stained timber cladding. It’s exquisite, to say the least.

And once you’re done with this incredible gastronomic experience, head upstairs to The Divers Club. Jay Doy, an award-winning mixologist, will be flipping to pour and shaking ice tumblers to whip up some very innovative mixed beverages. For once, social climbing may not be a negative thing.
Open daily 7pm-11pm. Pearl Social, Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl-Qatar (4035 5555).
