Throwing a tempura tantrum

We’ve been long-raving about the incredible views, excellent service and the best Japanese food in town (worthy winner of Best Japanese at Time Out Doha Restaurant Awards 2018). Nozomi might be perfect in every way, but if there’s one perennial pick its most known for, it’s the Arabian Gulf prawn tempura roll. Local prawns and avocado are glazed with a sweet soy in delicious rice and spicy mayonnaise on top. It’s such a hit, and it’s easy to see why. Sweet, spicy and fishy flavours all come together beautifully. But, we’ve been eating this contemporary Japanese roll for a very, very long time, and might we admit, in embarrassingly large quantities, too. It was evidently time for a change and in the process of breaking away from our prawn-monotony, we discovered our dish of the month, Canadian lobster tempura.

Perfectly fitting the nouveau mazikushi (new-age rolls) description, this Canadian lobster tempura is rolled with lettuce leaves and Japanese mayonnaise. Eating this roll needs focus – you bite into its crunchiness, savour the seafood flavour and let the splash of spicy mayonnaise on top leave a veritably delicious aftertaste in your mouth. It’s not exactly the most affordable item on the menu, but it’s worth every riyal spent.

While we’re still recovering from our highlight dish indulgence and planning our next new discovery (we saw some tempura maki for QR500!), we urge you to start saving those riyals already and get a date for Nozomi in the diary.
