Jazz at Lincoln Centre Doha had been one of the city’s most beloved institutions for years. Now, as The Club at The St. Regis, standards are showing no signs of dropping. In fact, if anything, they are on the rise.

There’s a refreshed line-up of entertainment, which has branched out from the more traditional forms of jazz to include show-stopping performances of blues, funk, soul, Motown, R’n’B and more.

The venue is shaking off its high-end image, too, in favour of something a bit more laidback. The plush velvet, cosy booths, heavy drapes and mood lighting that made this spot the recipient of our 2016 award for Best Romantic Restaurant remain (and if you want to dress to the nines for an evening here, by all means do – it’s the festive season, after all). But, equally, it’s the kind of place you can turn to when you’re simply in the mood for fantastic music and a plate of sliders.

The new menu follows the same tune. In essence, it’s the same. You’ll still find soul food favourites like New Orleans flow soup with corn bread on the menu, but there are plenty of new additions, like the prettily plated burrata salad. But, nothing tastes more like the holiday season than this sticky date and toffee pudding. Richly spiced and comforting, the treacle aromas and smooth waves of decadent cream evoke memories of wood fire-warmed living rooms and frosty weather.

Settle into a booth and let yourself indulge. You may not be able to get cosy by the fire when you live in the desert, but, trust us, this is the next best thing.

QR45. Open Tue-Sat 7pm-2am; live music from 8pm. The Club at The St Regis, The St. Regis Doha, West Bay Lagoon (4446 0000).
