The W’s latest special performer describes herself not as a lounge singer, but as a contemporary performer. Most people, when they hear ‘lounge’ singer immediately think old jazz standards and twinkly background piano sounds, she says, and that’s just not her. With a mix of old classics like Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, as well as more contemporary favourites like Adele and Snow Patrol, Lisa jokes she’s been called the Canadian Alicia Keys. From a small town in Ontario, she brings the Canadian favorites as well: we’ve been told she does a mean rendition of ‘Snow Bird’, and we’ve heard rumours of one or two Tragically Hip tunes in her repertoire. She takes the stage during Swing Sundays at Spice Market, where she’ll focus more on the classics, but she really shines when left to her own devices on her white piano at the Crystal Champagne Lounge.

Swing Sundays from 8pm-11pm, Spice Market, and Tue-Thu from 7.30pm-11.30pm at the Crystal Champagne Lounge, W Doha (4453 5353)
