You’re from Manchester. Is it hard for people abroad to understand your accent?
Mine is slightly Lancastrian. It’s usually only Americans that seem to struggle understanding me at times, particulary if I use slang.

You’ve worked with a few big names – Peter Kay, Steve Coogan etc. Are these guys just as funny off stage?

Not really, if comics behaved off stage the way they do on stage then none of us would have any friends. We would be quite annoying.

Your biog says you can ‘pluck outstanding material from thin air in an apparently effortless manner’. What’s your secret?

No secret, just bluff and bluster.

Have you been to Doha before? What are you looking forward to most about it?
I have been to Doha before and I will be making a trip to the Iranian Souk. It’s my favourite souk in Qatar.

What funny things have you heard or seen about Doha?
The last time I was in Doha, myself and another comedian were having coffee outside a café in the souk, and a very distinguished looking Arab gentleman asked for a light for his cigarette. When he found out we were English, he sat with us for coffee. He told us both all about his time at Durham University and what a massive fan he was of Led Zepplin. Very incongruous.

Laughter Factory, Ramada Plaza Doha (17 428 1428), October 4-5, 8pm. QR110 per person
