Check out watery art
This month the Museum of Islamic Art offers a workshop focused on water (crucial in a hot desert month). By reflecting on items from the museum’s collection, participants will be inspired to create a 3D piece of art decorated by verses from the Holy Qur’an in which the word ‘water’ is mentioned. Held every Monday and Wednesday from 9am-noon in the Education Centre, booking is required.

Sing ‘happy birthday’ to Obama
American president Barack Obama turns 50 today. Last year he marked the occasion by attending a basketball game. And this year? ‘Lower unemployment and fuel prices,’ he told a magazine in the States. Because nothing is as festive as fiscal responsibility.
Thu 4. Check local TV stations for coverage

Have a kick about
Are you a dad? Do you like football? Come along every Saturday from 6pm onwards to Qipco for a friendly pick-up game with other dads (optional: kids on the sidelines shouting ‘encouragement’ and taking you for ice cream afterwards).
Sat 6, Qipco compound. Email events@dohamums.com

Release your toxins
Use the quiet days of summer to enjoy a detox. Six Senses offers three- and four-day detoxification programmes at a discount this month (QR3,150 or QR4,050) – great to help you get back on track.
Sun 7, Six Senses Spa, Sharq Village & Spa. Call 4425 6999

Tuck in at Market
It may be Ramadan, with plenty of iftars around town, but Market is still offering its celebration of all things steak every Sunday from 6pm-11.30pm in its legendary (we think) Grill Night.
Sun 7, Market by Jean-Georges, W Doha. Call 4453 5135
