There are no codes for individual towns or villages. Fixed line numbers begin with the digit 4; mobile numbers begin with a 5.

Mobile phones
Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has a pay-as-you-go Hala service.You can get a SIM card and seven-digit number for around QR50. Recharge cards are available in store and you can also recharge at useful automated machines. You will need to show your passport to get your sim.

Tipping
Seventeen per cent tax is added onto many hotel and restaurant bills. Leaving a 10-15 per cent service charge on restaurant, bar, spa, hair and beauty treatment bills is up to you.
