The plot: Cowboys take on some aliens. What more do you need to know?
The lowdown: One look at the poster for this one and you can imagine how the pitch went: “Westerns are coming back and sci-fi is bigger than ever. Put them together and throw in James Bond and Indiana Jones for good measure.” With Steven Spielberg (does he ever rest?) and Ron Howard taking producer’s credits and Jon Favreau in the director’s chair this could be one of the few megabucks movies that is not a sequel or remake this summer.
The DVD alternative: Monsters v Aliens, Ninja v Samurai, Star Wars
p.s. Steven Spielberg advised the costuming department not to put Harrison Ford’s sheriff in a cowboy hat because he didn’t want audiences to be reminded of the Indiana Jones character.
