Potential to big a surprise summer hit Discuss this article

What seismic situation has The Rock got himself into this time? Dwayne Johnson has been keeping busy with blockbuster action roles over the past 12 months, with the surprisingly successful Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and not-quite-so-good Rampage appearing already. This time, though, his latest character Will Sawyer gets into trouble in the fictional, tallest skyscraper in the world (fictional because it’s not the Burj Khalifa).

The story follows Sawyer, a FBI hostage rescue team leader and (here’s the good bit) U.S. war veteran. While on assignment in Hong Kong to asses security at what purports to be the safest building in the world, he finds himself in a life-threatening situation. A situation that will put the lives of everyone in the building – including his family – at risk. Well, it wouldn’t be a summer blockbuster without some peril, would it?

What sets this popcorn flick out from the rest is Sawyer has to do all this with an artificial leg. Is that entirely PC? Probably not. Does it give the film license to set up some improbable stunts? You betcha! Will this be absolutely forgettable? Probably. Will it have the summer fun-factor? Without a doubt.

The bottom line
Potential to big a surprise summer hit.
