Can Margot Robbie do no wrong? Her astonishing breakthrough in The Wolf of Wall Street was up there with the very best movie debuts of all time. Her cameo in The Big Short was rightly adored. And she was the only one to come out of Suicide Squad unscathed – her Harley
Quinn not just the best thing in it but now being fastracked by Warners for her own big budget spin-off. Not bad for some kid from Neighbours...

Next up? Well, that would be I, Tonya, a biopic currently being talked up as the movie that might well land her the Best Actress Oscar. Ironically, a story about one woman’s disastrous quest for gold might win the woman who plays her some of her own. Having stolen movies from others, here Robbie proves herself as a lead.

She plays ice skater Tonya Harding, the second-most notable athlete-villain of 1994 (hello, O.J.), who was forever burned into infamy when her bitter rival, Nancy Kerrigan, was attacked with a savage blow to her leg, just after a practice session leading up to the Winter Olympics.

I, Tonya shows that Harding was far more innocent than the world believed, the victim of an abusive mother and husband (Janney and Stan, both brilliant), and Robbie does her true justice, in a moving, unmissable turn.

The bottom line
Now Margot Robbie sets her sights on Oscar.
