Hot on the yellow-bricked heels of the, ahem, awesome The LEGO Movie and the deliriously daft The LEGO Batman Movie comes what Warners is hoping will prove the hat-trick in the smash hit stakes.

The omens are good, with a superb cast and early footage suggesting that, even though this is the first LEGO movie born out of one of their original toy lines, the inherent sense of mischief that the franchise has become known for is still very much present and correct. Here, Dave Franco’s Lloyd The Green Ninja discovers his old man is actually evil Lord Garmadon (Justin Theroux) and must set off on an epic adventure with his other ninja pals to bring him to his knees.

On top of the daddy issues, in-jokes and action, there is also, we are reliably informed, a real-life cat stomping its way through a city built entirely of LEGO. And that’s not something you see every day, is it?

The bottom line
Looks like another awesome LEGO effort.
