James Bond meets John Wick, but now with added lipstick. As pitches go, Atomic Blonde’s is a corker. And Charlize Theron – who has tried to get this adaptation of the graphic novel off the ground for ages – has clearly had a blast delivering it. With no less than eight personal trainers putting her through her paces (she also trained alongside Keanu Reeves, who was bulking up for John Wick 2 at the time), she looks set to deliver another knockout action turn after stealing the show as Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road a couple of years back.

The plot, frankly, looks very much like a secondary concern – a pretty standard Bondian tale of spies and shootouts – but the visuals and fight choreography promise much. Perhaps not surprisingly, given that it comes from Theron and the director of the original John Wick (who is also next directing Deadpool 2), this looks like awesome, deadly fun.

The bottom line
A new action icon is born. And she rocks.
