No, sadly not the movie debut of Olivier Giroud and co. – no matter how much the Frenchman’s recent stunning “scorpion kick” deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible. Nor is it, as a cursory glance at its cast list might suggest, a retirement home for former ’80s action stars in need of a pay cheque to fund a new patio to relax on.

Instead, Steven C. Miller’s “powerful action-thriller” (we’re reading this bit off of the IMDb) “tells the intertwining stories of the Lindel brothers, Mikey (Johnathon Schaech) and JP (Adrian Grenier), who had only each other to rely on growing up. As adults, JP found success as the owner of a construction company, while Mikey became a small-time mobster… When Mikey is kidnapped by ruthless crime boss Eddie King (Nicolas Cage), JP turns to the brothers’ old pal Sal (John Cusack), a plain-clothes detective, for help.”

For all of its formulaic plotting, this could have some legs.

The bottom line
A hackneyed plot, but packing two old pros.
