One-man shows are a theatre staple, but you can count on the fingers of one hand the actors who have been asked to carry an entire movie on their lonesome. Stepping bravely into that miniscule pantheon comes the already legendary Robert Redford, whose new movie All is Lost has garnered a healthy fistful of critical praise at US screenings. The second film from Margin Call director JC Chandor, the film follows Redford’s solo sailor as his boat hits trouble in the Pacific and he finds himself in a battle for survival. With a one-man cast list and precious little dialogue, the film will have to rely almost entirely on the skills of its director and leading man – but early reports insist the result is something quite remarkable.
