Vietnamese martial arts flick is a formulaic kidnap movie Discuss this article

Also known as Bay Rong, 2009 Vietnamese martial arts flick Clash may not be much of a departure from the formulaic kidnap scenarios we’ve come to expect at the cinema during Ramadan, but it’s refreshing to see a woman playing the lead. Trinh is a mercenary, tasked with completing a series of jobs for her boss in order to secure the release of her daughter, who has been abducted. After adding some more muscle to her payroll in the form of the strapping Quan, it’s clear there’s a growing attraction between the two, but their respective motivations threaten the entire operation. It’s nothing short of a trying watch, but at least it doesn’t star Jason ‘perpetual badman’ Statham.
