We Are The Night

Sexy vampire film with impressive visuals and poor dubbing Discuss this article

If you love the Twilight saga, you’ll hate this. Trying to cash in on the recent craze in all things vampire and werewolf, German import We Are the Night puts the vamp in vampire but lacks bite. The movie has a bit of an identity crisis, combining a Sex and the City vibe (shopping for designer clothes, female bonding) with police-chase scenes, à la Miami Vice, all under the visage of a vampire film.

The story follows Lena, a petty thief on the streets of Berlin who is trying everything to escape her humdrum life. Lena has a mysterious encounter with the tempestuous Louise, a beautiful 250-year-old vampire, who leaves her with a calling card: a bite to the neck. Lena joins Louise and her gaggle of glamorous vampires in their decadent life of fast cars, sparkling jewels and murder, but soon learns the downside to her new immortal life.

Although visually stunning, the film gets too caught up in trying to make the vampire theme as sexy as possible, with scenes that would make tweeny vampire fans blush. It loses its way very early on and tries to compensate with some dubious CGI effects. To make matters worse, the German film has been dubbed pretty badly, ruining whatever chances it had from the get-go. Unfortunately, this film just sucks. Pun intended.
