You know that the well of ideas has truly run dry when Hollywood decides to revive Universal Soldier, a dinosaur of the ’80s muscle star years that offers us not one, but two irrelevant, long-out-of-work meatheads: Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. It might work as a nostalgia piece for action fans of a certain age, but the plot’s blatant rip-off of Terminator 2 (an old-model UniSol takes on a new-generation UniSol) does away with any hopes there may have been of something original.
