Our hands and feet get a good going over in the Citrus spa manicure and Marine spa pedicure at Nails Boutique.

The promise
To exfoliate and rehydrate your lower legs and arms, hands and feet, as well as leave your nails looking as pretty as a picture.

Step by step
You arrive to a spacious salon with plenty of natural light and are taken to a wall of nail polish colours and asked to choose. The ladies will advise on the trends but basically it’s light for summer and dark for winter. I went with the Shellac Dark Dahlia, a new deep purple they have on offer. You’re then taken to sit down in a comfortable chair that faces floor-to-ceiling windows and your therapists introduce themselves, bring you any beverages you might like and then begin the treatment by filing down and/or shaping your finger and toe nails. They cut back any cuticles you may have, then your legs, feet, arms and hands are exfoliated with various natural products. A serum is rubbed over the hard skin on your feet and the therapist wraps up your feet in a plastic bag, leaving the serum to do its work. Your hands are also coated in an anti-ageing and purifying mask and left in a hot towel for a few minutes (cue itch!). The ladies then remove any products and your feet are pumiced until all the hard skin is removed, rubbed in a marine clay mask, then wrapped up again and left to soak up all the goodness.

Now it’s on to the nails. They put on a coat of Solar Oil which hydrates and strengthens the nails with some vitamin E, then they alternate putting on two coats of your chosen colour, while the other hand dries in a quick-dry machine, and then finish off with a top coat. By this point, your nails are glossy, bump-free and looking lovely.

The whole treatment is finished off with a foot, hand, leg and arm massage that uses specific moisturising products to leave you feeling silky smooth.

Pros
• The therapists are lovely and knowledgeable, asking you how you’d like things done at every point. I even learned a thing or two about my skin!
• It’s relaxing because of all the aromas and massage
• Your skin is left feeling incredibly soft and hydrated
• The Shellac nail polish stays on for up to two weeks

Cons
• My fingernails differed in size and shape from hand to hand – something I realised when I got home and really inspected the job

The verdict
I was left with silky, hydrated hands and feet for a good while. My feet, which weren’t in the best state beforehand, have looked and felt great ever since and I’m tempted to make this mani-pedi part of my monthly routine. The Nails Boutique ladies were very convincing!
