Fittingly in the InterContinental Doha, Manko is interconnected to the new La Mar restaurant, occupying the top floor of a cavernous new space. Ascend the solid stone steps and make your way to the outdoor area. En route is a softly lit bar with what appears to be enormous brass pipes jutting out from the ceiling, exuding a Parisian chic flair. The dim lighting is very atmospheric, giving a flattering look to everyone joining the party and the added bonus of making it harder to see you if you prefer to stay hidden. We venture outside to the balcony and see a bartender expertly preparing beverages with a delicate touch. The Latin deep house tracks cascade across the floor but don’t drown out conversation.

It’s a top option for some people watching, with views of the restaurant down below on either side. If you’ve been holding onto that Cuban for a while and want somewhere scenic to inaugurate it, there’s also a lounge nestled among four different beverage bars. Comfy couches padded with starfish patterned cushions overlooking a sparkling view of the West Bay skyline adorn the space.

The range of sips is massive with selected beverages starting QR65. The ingredients are fragrant and fresh and our cups are presented with an almost obsessive attention to detail, from the curved slices of the lemon wedge to a wafer-thin slice of pineapple garnishing the top. Sharing plates and snacks in Nikkei (Peruvian fused with Japanese) cuisine are available, too.

It’s still early days for Manko but we see stylish couples and groups of friends venturing upstairs as it opens at 8pm. This place seems to tick all the boxes for a sophisticated evening out in town. The décor is not too wacky or outlandish, but it surely calls for a stylish get up. Manko is a trendy and tasteful new addition to Doha’s nightlife scene, big enough to not feel claustrophobic with a group of friends and cosy enough to make it perfect for an intimate evening.
