Popular bar is packed - and with good reason Discuss this article

Oh, what would we do without the Belgian? Thursday and Friday nights you can barely move through the crowd, it’s so packed, and with good reason: this is one of the most relaxed, friendly, pub style venues in Qatar. Also, the things they do with mussels are beyond words. Popular with people heading onwards afterwards (which is why you will see a mix of apparel, although jeans and sneakers are completely acceptable here), it also attracts a fair number of people who decide to stay all night long. Their menu is focused heavily on imported hops, including multiple European varieties and flavours. Service can be a bit slow, as it is very crowded, but it’s attentive: the waiters mostly know what they’re talking about and can make recommendations, and seem to be legitimately trying their best to get everything out in a timely manner.

The food menu is varied as well, with mains as well as nibbles that are easily shared (we like anything with the word croquette involved). They also do waffles with ice cream, and some of the best French fries we’ve ever had, served Belgian style with mayonnaise. Weeknights are a bit easier to get a table, but book ahead and brave the crowds on a weekend for a relaxed yet hopping evening out. Our one quibble: it can get very hot and a trifle smoky when it’s crowded. You’ve been warned.
