Forget nightclubs and dodgy bars, golf clubs are where it’s at. Tucked away on the ground floor of Doha Golf Club, Spike’s Lounge is a stylish cream and green venue that makes a welcome respite from the sticky red-carpeted ’80s-style bars that dominate the rest of Doha. Alternatively, take advantage of the hospitable surrounds of the club and pull up a pew outside on the terrace that overlooks immaculate, world-class greens.

While Spike’s represents the perfect spot for an après-golf drink, the bar is too good to leave just to the players. Drinks are competitively priced, and when you’re bored of downing them on an empty stomach, there’s a decent food menu that’s a cut above your average bar grub. So don’t be deterred by the fact that Spike’s is somewhat off the beaten track; this buzzing bar is definitely worth any extra effort involved in getting there. A word of advice though. Be sure to book a cab to take you home again, as there’s little or no chance of hailing a taxi out here. We speak from experience.
