Nowhere is Doha’s quiet evolution from moribund backwater into slick hub more noticeable than at this irresistible rooftop oasis. We might baulk a little at the hefty prices but if you’ve got the cash, you’d be a fool to miss out on what is inarguably the hippest place in town right now. The views are utterly spectacular – the Gulf and the twinkling lights of the city’s ever-expanding skyline make for a heart-stopping backdrop to the evening’s revelries, as do the expertly made Cuba Libre and mojito cocktails.

There’s an unobtrusive soundtrack of laid-back deep house spun by a DJ, while the low-slung tables house chattering groups of well-heeled 20 and 30-somethings and giant plates of sumptuous-looking sushi are paraded around by slick waiters who seem to glide rather than walk. The overriding whiff of moneyed success may be off-putting to some, but in a place that has struggled for so long in the nightlife department, the presence of this glamorous show pony is a thing to be toasted.
