If it weren’t for the constant planes flying precariously low overhead, Al Wanis would be the ultimate rooftop venue. It has a chilled-out Arabian atmosphere, perfect for a couple of pre-dinner drinks and shisha. The moneyed-up VIPs can bag themselves one of the private canopied booths – for a QR1,000 minimum spend – while the plebs can sit on the terrace, with low lounges, Persian carpets and cushions, but both seating arrangements afford views over the beautiful resort. The menu is limited to mezze like houmous, fatayer (pastry encased vegetables) and some of the tastiest kibbeh Time Out Doha has ever sampled – but the real reason to visit is to puff on shisha. Try the strawberry or the apple – fail-safe winners.
