The solo exhibition of new, introspective works by the Doha-based contemporary artist Mariana Heilmann opens with a launch evening from 7pm.

Souq Waqif’s spring festival is back for another round so head to the marketplace to enjoy parades, plays, music and much more. It’s free to enter but some shows may require tickets.

Mona Hatoum: Turbulence

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Education City (www.mathaf.org.qa)
This exhibition presents the diversity of artist Mona Hatoum’s work over the last 30 years and is curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath. The exhibition’s premise builds on the artist’s work Turbulence (2012), a 4x4 metre square made of thousands of glass marbles and laid on the floor.

Overall, this is the artist’s largest solo exhibition to date in the Arab world, featuring more than 70 works ranging from large-scale room installations to smaller works on paper and sculptures.

The Writing Exchange

Tchaikovsky’s First Symphony

Dusk to Dawn… Threads of Infinity

Renowned Brazilian artists Pedro Varela and Carolina Ponte, who are represented by Sao Paulo’s Zipper Gallery, will host a dual exhibition called Dusk to Dawn… Threads of Infinity from this night to mark the Qatar Brazil 2014 Year of Culture. Presenting a mosaic of Brazilian colours and diversity, Pedro’s Dusk to Dawn paintings take us through the journey of life, from its deepest dark secrets to its light warm sun rays. Meanwhile, Carolina’s never ending web of spontaneous colours and structure, reflect life’s eternity and threads of infinity.

The Depth of Hope

The Gallery, Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, Qatar Foundation (4402 0555)
Sudanese-Egyptian artist Fathi Hassan, who will have a solo exhibition at The Gallery, experiments with the written and spoken word through his drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations, exploring the theme of ancient languages erased by colonial domination. He plays with the symbols, textures and calligraphy of his Nubian heritage to find the space between graphic symbolism and literal meaning.

Radiant

Museum of Islamic Art, Corniche (www.mia.org.qa)
As part of its fifth anniversary, the Museum of Islamic Art presents Radiant, a contemporary photographic exhibition held in collaboration with East Wing at the fourth floor galleries. An iconic achievement by renowned architect I.M. Pei, MIA has inspired a portfolio of images that represents the cultural legacy of the museum and its collection. It is through exploring the museum’s physical space that Radiant sheds light on the many links between the past and the present. It’s free to enter.
