Khor Al Udaid

Incredibly beautiful and unspoilt natural sand formations Discuss this article

Those seeking natural beauty will see their search end at this huge inlet that stretches like fingers into a field of crescent-shaped sand dunes. The inlet isn’t completely cut off from the sea, but is concealed. It’s incredibly beautiful and unspoilt, and the colours of the dunes are amazing at both sunrise and sunset. It’s important to realise this region must be respected and precautions need to be made. Do not venture here alone: vehicles need to go in convoy to protect against the possibilities of breaking down, getting stuck, lost, or even rolling over.

Ensure that your party packs plenty of drinking water, that the cars (4x4s) have been checked and serviced, that the drivers are experienced in tackling deep sand, and that your driver knows the way. The safest way to visit Khor Al Udaid is to go with a tour company like Gulf Adventures (431 5555). You’ll be offered a choice of half-day, full-day and overnight trips. Most companies set up camps prior to your arrival – with shade, changing facilities in case you want to swim, and portable loos for those all-important bathroom trips. You may also be given the opportunity to ride a camel or sandboard down the dunes.
