Qatar National Day
Fireworks, parades, brunches, cultural events – National Day is one of the biggest celebrations of the year, when people of all ages and nationalities get together to cheer on the country and its culture. Looking for a place to mark the occasion? Sawa will be serving Qatari dishes with plenty of fun activities for kids, including camel rides along the beach, and henna.

A week of Spanish cuisine
Over at Oryx Rotana, chef Angel Zapata Martin will be in town cooking up authentic Spanish dishes and tapas at The Cellar and Choices. There are plenty of daily lunch and dinner promotions, plus the chance to learn from the chef himself at a Spanish cooking class.

Once a month, the exclusive Prime Club serves up a specially-created six-course menu of beautifully presented (and expertly flavoured) food at the chef’s table. There are just 14 spots available each month, so book in advance.

See stand-up comedy

This month a stellar lineup takes to the stage including Ian Stone (regular star of TV shows such as Mock the Week and Never Mind the Buzzcocks), host of award-winning smash podcast An Irishman Abroad, Jarlath Regan, and straight-talking Aussie Wayne Deakin.

Film festival

The fourth Ajyal Youth Film Festival presents a rich showcase of inspiring tales from 19 countries. From political statements to heartwarming stories, the shorts include international films like Pien, Queen of the Bees, which documents bone cancer patient Pien (the youngest bee keeper in The Netherlands), alongside films made right here in Qatar like AJ Al Thani’s Kashta.

Now you see me

Born in Paris to Algerian parents, artist Zineb Sedira’s multimedia artwork deals with questions of mobility and memory. The solo exhibition – titled Zineb Sedira: Now you see me – now you see me – includes a video installation and works from her recent series on the origins of sugar.

Martin Solveig live

One of the world’s biggest house DJs and producers, Martin Solveig, will be playing live in Doha on Thursday December 8. Long one of the biggest names in house music, Solveig has shot to superstardom in recent years with huge hits like Intoxicated, Hey Now and Blow.

Sunset sessions

Watch the sun go down over half-price food and beverages on one of the city’s most picturesque rooftops – Illusion’s garden terrace.

Nagham by The Backyard

It’s The Backyard, but with a Middle Eastern twist. Enjoy live music from Nagham’s official band, plus performances from guest artists every week.

Live latin beats

Salsa ‘n’ Candela is turning eight, so, naturally, they are throwing a huge party on the beach. There will be plenty of entertainment, from dance shows to a live band, to get you into the Latin spirit. Tickets include one beverage.

Turkish delight

Chef Ibrahim Karakoc and Chef Nejdet Kaya from Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, will be in Doha for two weeks at souq-inspired restaurant Sridan, creating a buffet of authentic Turkish cuisine fit for a Sultan.
