Banana Island Doha guide
Head off-shore to the peaceful Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara Discuss this article
Which bit of the city are we off to this month?
Actually, we’re technically not going to an area of the city. We’re heading off-shore to the peaceful Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara.
Isn’t that just a hotel?
Let us stop you right there. Yes, it certainly is a hotel. So you could simply head there for a weekend break, spend a couple of nights in an over-water villa, laze on the beach a bit, enjoy a meal or two at one of the seven restaurants, and then head back to land. Or, you could head there for a few rounds of bowling, to challenge your mate to a one-kilo burger-eating challenge and surf on a wave simulator.
I like the sound of that. What other activities can you do?
There’s putting golf and tennis, an F1 racing simulator, plus you can rent bikes, electric cars or even two-wheeled Segways to zoom around the island on.
What about in the water?
The island has a fantastic dive centre, where you can sign up to RAID diving courses for both beginners and more experienced divers. Alternatively, join a snorkelling excursion to see the colourful sealife that lives around the island.
All sounds quite active. I thought you said it was a peaceful island?
There are plenty of spots for you to sit back and watch the world go by. Sit out on the terrace of Al Nahham – the hotel’s Middle Eastern restaurant – and gaze over to Doha’s skyline in the distance, or just relax by the pool or beach for a few hours. There’s also the serene Anantara Spa where we would highly recommend booking yourself an appointment.
Spa days are something I can definitely get on board with.
Banana Island’s spa has one of the loveliest hammam rooms we’ve come across, and a tranquil little relaxation garden for you to unwind in. Not to mention the stunning horizon views from the over-water spa suites. Other facilities include an indoor pool, ice well, sauna, Jacuzzi and steam rooms, plus private rooms for manicures, pedicures and facials.
Only on Banana Island
Balance Wellness Centre
This huge dedicated wellness centre offers tailored “journeys” for detoxing, de-stressing, weight-management and more, over one or even several days. The centre offers innovative therapies such as flotation pods, in addition to fitness classes, yoga, an indoor botanical garden for relaxing in and a café which serves a variety of healthy dishes (plus some less healthy, but delicious, desserts and pastries).
Time Out Doha,
