The Holy Month is here, and with it comes the myriad of iftars on offer in the city. From the traditional and quiet, to the lavish and lively, there’s something to suit every mood and budget. This year, even Michelin-standard chefs like Greg Malouf will be in town (see page 51). If you’re looking for the ultimate Ramadan experience, however, head to the Marsa Malaz Kempinski to enjoy iftar and suhoor in the Palazzo Ballroom, where there will be a huge buffet spread with live cooking stations from across the world. All accompanied by traditional
live entertainment.

Dance at this

Head to Crystal Lounge for this season’s closing party where resident DJ Tobias will be spinning a variety of RnB, commercial tracks and house music.

New exhibition at Garage Gallery

After nine months, the current Artist in Residency programme at the Fire Station will wrap up with the annual end of residency exhibition at the Garage Gallery. Showcasing selected works from the regional artists, the exhibition incorporates research, prototypes, and finished outcomes. It will be showing until the end of November.

Traditional iftar

Head to Damasca One in Souq Waqif for a lively and traditional iftar meal. Ramadan favourites such as jellab, soups, mezze, Syrian-Arabic mains and traditional desserts will be on offer as part of a set menu that includes a main, a drink and a selection of appetisers and desserts. Book in advance to get a seat upstairs.

Michelin-standard iftar

Head to the W Doha’s Ramadan tent where Greg Malouf will be cooking his famous contemporary Arabic cuisine including Palestinian chicken with saj, lentil tabbouleh, grilled seafood and more. Malouf led Petersham Nurseries Café in London to its Michelin star, and is the man behind the sleek Clé Dubai restaurant. The W’s Sultan Tent will offer live food stations, a live Ramadan band playing traditional Arabic instrumental music and a shisha menu.

The Ramadan tent here is one of the best in the city. The attention to detail is in everything from the food and buffet displays to the décor and entertainment. The menus rotate and also offer the chance to try Qatari cuisine.

New exhibition at Mathaf

The newest installation at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art is by Turkish artist Aslı Çavusoglu. Red/Red includes handmade notebooks of drawings and paintings made with red pigments from Armenia and Turkey. It’s a melancholy and hopeful proposal to find a way for the region’s inhabitants to co-exist.
