Fantastic 4
From August 13
Mister Fantastic (Miles Teller), the Human Torch (Michael B Jordan), Invisible Woman (Kate Mara) and The Thing (Jamie Bell) are normal human beings teleported to an alternate universe. Obviously, something goes wrong and they end up with incredible superpowers, which is a good thing, as it means they can battle foe Victor von Doom (Toby Kebbell) and save the earth.
Novo Cinema, The Pearl (4418 5736).

Learn French
Ongoing
Think you may want to learn French? Now might be the time to parler Français. The Institut Français Du Qatar does classes five days a week and offers options for beginners and experienced French speakers alike.

Watch the last of the Ashes
August 20-24
Cricket. A classier and more intelligent version of baseball, you could say. This is the fifth and final test series in the age-old battle between England and Australia. Australia had the best of it last time, winning at a canter, 5-0. At the time of printing it was all square at 1-1 in the series, so this fifth one may be the deciding test. Will it be enigmatic and outspoken players such as David Warner that will make all the difference for Australia, or unassuming professionals such as England’s Joe Root? It’s a Michael Clarke versus Alastair Cook captains’ battle, all for the chance to claim the urn.

Live musical concert
August 21
As part of the Summer Festival, there will be a live concert day at the QNCC, featuring many Arabic and international artists. The finer details of the artists performing will be on the Qatar Tourism Authority website (hopefully).
Qatar National Convention Centre, Education City (4470 7000), www.qatarsummerfestival.qa.

Deep cleansing
Throughout August
Why not have a detoxifying spirulina mask rich in mineral oils to cleanse the skin? Last sentence didn’t seem to make too much sense? Basically, it’s pretty good for you. It lasts 120 minutes and costs QR700. Or you can upgrade and have a deep cleansing facial using lemon and cypress and lasting 225 minutes, costing QR1,300. Perhaps this is worth a splurge?
Jaula Spa, Grand Hyatt, West Bay Lagoon (4448 1056).
