See the work of Alfredo
The work of Spanish contemporary artist Alfredo Palmero comes to Qatar. He’s famous for his harlequins, which have a certain Picassan flavour to them, as well as his meninas (young maids in waiting), which some say more closely resemble the work of Velazquez.

Hit the beach one last time
Take to the sand just before it becomes too hot to reasonably go out without instant pain and burning. DJ Ian Carey is on hand to help us forget the heat, the sweat, and how much our hair is frizzing in the beach air. Tickets are QR150 in advance, QR200 at the door, available at the InterContinental and Virgin Megastore.
Thu 9, InterContinental Doha Beach. Call 4484 4444
Mix it up
Ze frozen cocktail, she calls to us (and apparently makes us speak like a French cartoon). Learn to beat the heat with slushy cups of frozen adult delights from the Habanos team. QR225 per person from 4pm onwards.
Fri 11, Habanos, Ritz-Carlton Doha. Call 4484 8000
Learn to make curry
Learn the delicate art of the curry, or at least a basic Indian curry you can make at home from Chef Biju George. Will it burn your tongue and make your sinus beg for mercy? If you’re lucky. QR265 per person, including lunch (prepared by the chefs, thankfully), starting at 10.30am.
Sat 12, Ritz-Carlton Doha. Call 4484 8000
Grab a beach read
Heading out on holiday? Need something to while away the summer days now all the good TV is on a break? Going through literature withdrawal? We feel your pain. Head over to the Doha Mums book swap from 9am-11pm to trade in an already-read book or magazine for something new-to-you. Also on June 27.
Mon 13, Starbucks, Landmark Mall. See www.dohamums.com
