Best quality: We couldn’t stop our mouth watering when we read the description of the Four Seasons Iftar feast. Set within the Arabica Terrace Tent, there will be Thai, Chinese and even South African dishes in addition to Middle Eastern, plus amazing desserts, musicians and shisha.

Best for culture. And it’s free!: The Qatar Islamic Cultural Centre is teaching expats more about Ramadan on August 21 with a special Iftar feast from 5pm-7.30pm at the Fanar building. Visitors can ask questions about the holy month, see the live prayer and taste traditional Ramadan food.
To book a place, email info@fanar.gov.qa.

Best for big groups: There’s plenty of seating inside and out at The Grill at the Grand Hyatt Doha, making it the ideal place to drop by for Iftar with a group of friends. The buffet has a wide range of traditional Arabic food, international cuisine, Ramadan juices and a number of desserts. Or go for one of the Ramadan room deals that has food here included.

Overall best setting: It’s hard to beat Brasserie on the Beach at the best of times, but during Ramadan and as a setting to break the fast, it just got even more inviting. With wood ovens, live cooking stations and a scenic backdrop, what more do you need?

Most arabic setting: The Arabian-themed Sharq Village & Spa hotel will have an Iftar buffet in its Al Dasha ballroom. Highlights will include Arabic musicians, a jalab (juice) man who will pass from table to table, and an ice-cream chef serving special Ramadan flavours. The setting alone will put you in a cultural mood.

Best for variety: The Ritz-Carlton Doha’s Ramadan tent sounds like an impressive affair, with more than 50 dishes to try, live cooking stations, a Lebanese band, Egyptian dancers, a traditional Syrian juice maker, henna tattoo artist, a miniature souk and falconry on Thursdays and Fridays. Sure to keep you amused for the entire month.

Cheapest!: Not only does the Iftar buffet at the Swiss-Belhotel Doha’s Maxill restaurant cost just QR100 per person, but if you book for a group of five, you’ll get one place free. And kids aged 12 and under cost just QR50.
